The SIM Card Registration Act has been signed!

On Monday, October 10, 2022. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed the SIM Card Registration Act.


According to the Office of the Press Secretary officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil, the SIM Card Registration Act aims to provide “accountability in the use of SIM cards and aid law enforcers to track perpetrators of crimes committed through phones.”


This means that all public telecommunications entities (PTE) or direct sellers shall require the SIM card user or buyer to fill up a form requesting their information and present a valid identification document or government ID with a photo.


Existing SIM Subscribers must register with their provider or Public Telecommunication Entity (PTE) within 180 days from the signing of this Law.


All Information and credentials in the SIM Card registration are confidential unless the subscriber has given the authorization to access his/her information.


Fact: There are more than 150 countries around the globe that requires its citizen to link and register their information and identity with their SIM.
